I built a Dore-Westbury in about 1976 from the kit pre- machined parts. I still have it although it is now dismantled. The head has bean mounted on a Tom Senior M1 milling machine and the base has been used to make a small surface grinder. I have modified the head to use polyvee belts with an inverter controlled motor.

Re-named the "Dore-Westbury" the miller went on to become one of the most popular in the model engineering world - for nothing else on sale at the time could offer the enthusiast such a remarkable combination of value, adaptability, speed range and compact dimensions.

The model is called Dore-Westbury Mk2 but there does not seem to be much info around on how to convert it into a CNC mill. There is a good possibility that this was made from a kit. It is a nice little machine for that type of use. As far as a CNC conversion I haven't heard much either.

Yeh, the Dore Westbury is indeed a unique mill, not least as it was originally sold in kit form, which comprised a set of plans, a book containing all the machining procedures and notes, a set of partly machined castings and all the materials to make the various levers and such.
